I wanted to write a little bit about a fun project I made together with Liisi Grünberg. Or should I say rather that she made the film with me. Or to be even more exact, she made the film and I helped her with the sounds and music.
Liisi has written already a longer blog post about the film here, so make sure to check it out. If you want to watch the film, check out ERR news article about it. For a direct link, check out Arkaader.ee
We recorded 99% of what you hear in the movie. One exception was a NASA howling space sound we mixed in at 0:15-0:17 in the movie. We went to Keila to record some waterfall sounds, drove around in Tallinn, recorded ambient city sounds, went to Männikui Karjäär to record some splash sounds. We both got to throw rocks in the water.
Nice thing about the movie was that it was just 1 minute long, so it just did take a few days to arrange the music and mix the sounds. At first, Liisi actually envisioned using different type of music in the movie, actually some from my own collection. But after some experimentation I decided to create completely new intro, which I thought matched the vibe of the movie well. After thing get outta hand in the movie, I had quite a few of takes to match the increasing tension in the music to the actions of the character (no spoilers here).
I must say I loved working with Liisi on this one. Who knows, maybe she'll ask me for some help for her future projects too. I hope so, but we'll live and see :D.
